Nika Fontaine’s work deals boldly with the viewer’s visual perceptions as well as their cultural ones, enacting an exploration of spirituality that elevates the use of glitter to a metaphysical level.   Combining a direct embrace of camp tropes and would-be kitsch materials with an intense regard on the sublime and the beautiful, she makes art that eliminates the distinction between the authentic and the artificial, in order to both celebrate and interrogate our multifaceted lives as embodied and psychological beings.   November 24 – December 24, 2016 Heimat Nika Fontaine	Pink Village is a video and photographic work that questions ideas of aid and assistance on the continent of Africa. It is a documentation of a performance where Monosov acts the part of Westerner and the villagers act their lives for her camera; all communicated through a veil of irony. The videograms Lovers Journey and Porthole Eyes were created by Laurent Mulot during his residency at Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie en Gaspésie. Mulot made these artworks on a cargo boat travelling from Gaspesie to Côte-Nord, at latitude + – 49° 29’. They are part of a larger project started in 2001 called Middle of Nowhere, that takes place on 6 continents. François Morelli’s video La mesure (2013-2014) is an ongoing project exploring the gentrification and transformation of the neighborhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Using a yardstick, Morelli measures the length of rue Ontario in Montreal, between the corners of rue Moreau, the extreme west point, and rue Viau, moving eastwards, making marks along his path. The yardstick, a family momento, was purchased in the 1950s at Grégoire, a local hardware store in the neighborhood. August 18 – October 8, 2016 La mesure Video François Morelli	Composed of watercolors and sculptures, The Whole World Has Gone Joyously Mad is an installation by Nadine Faraj, inspired by female activists who use their nudity as a means to protest. According to the artist, this is a way for these women to draw attention to the cause they are fighting for. However it also makes them more vulnerable to the possible reactions of the public, often already hostile to their presence and their tactics. Sébastien Worsnip’s series of paintings presented in ​​the exhibition Real Men Don’t Look at Explosions depicts moments of explosion, focusing on the instant where all is in flux in order to observe the transformations. Is he reincarnated through the has-been suburbs material, industrial parks and shopping malls? On a synthetic grass carpet, borrowed from a mini-golf, an empty oil barrel is attached to a lift rescued from a manufacture. Perforated in the manner of a score for piano, mallets vibrates on the tubes, endlessly repeating a detuned version of Are you lonesome tonight. Our perceived surroundings are a collection of images formed through the intricate workings of our senses, and the impressions prescribed by mood, memory and so much more. April 30 – June 4, 2016 Staring at the Sun Video Annie Briard	Massimo Guerrera is interested in what comes of his encounters with others in various contexts, whether that is in the entrepreneurial world (Polyco), in the context of one's home (Porus), or in the exhibition space (Darboral). For his recent series La réunion des pratiques, which began in 2007, he reflects on what occurs during the different steps involved in setting up an exhibition. In the exhibition Un moment donné (entre la galerie et la maison), Guerrera explores the trajectory of the work, from its creation to its distribution. In an unprecedented way, he invites the public to make appointments for encounters in his studio/home, or behind the scenes at the Gallery. The artist is available on Tuesdays, at 12pm, 1:30pm, and 3pm at the Gallery, as well as on Thursdays, at 12pm, 1:30 pm, and 3pm at the artist's studio.  To make an appointment with the artist, please call us at (514)875-2323. Art Souterrain, with the theme of "must art be appealing?” presents the video Rare birds in these lands (2013) by Céline Berger, at Joyce Yahouda Gallery. This video was proposed through a collaboration between Division of Labour Gallery in London and Joyce Yahouda Gallery. The video Rare birds in these lands (2013) was shot on location, before and after a workshop in which four artists and four managers were invited to participate, analyzing the risks that an artist's intervention in a company could represent for both parties. In this video work, the narrated voice over is a direct transcription of statements gathered at this occasion. In many of his compositions, faceless human figures work against backdrops of bizarre landscapes, mundane architecture or chimerical scenes. Horowitz's imagery alters the original nature of objects and scale, creating overall dreamlike atmospheres. « While the well-known anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion has a highly organic mystical ending, Julie Tremble’s most recent video, After Evangelion, takes us on a journey through a world made up of drifting fragments of rationality. Tremble’s new explorations continue her research into the ways in which outer space is represented, using images inspired by documentaries and science-fiction films, and graphics taken from scientific articles. The video centres on the blurred line that separates observation from reality, its reconstitution, and fiction. The representations are distinctly mysterious, reminding us that, in terms of physics and metaphysics, the meaning of our world lies beyond our stratosphere.
