Founder, general curator and administrative director of two contemporary art galleries in the heart of Montreal, Galerie J. Yahouda Meir (1981-1990) and Galerie Joyce Yahouda (2002 - 2016), Joyce Yahouda is passionate about promoting artists' careers. She defends demanding art that invites reflection. She also seeks to foster dialogue between artists, curators, art critics, collectors and art lovers.
As an independent curator since 1991, Joyce continues to conceive exhibitions, both on her own and in collaboration with local and international partners. She has organized exhibitions in London, Paris, Lyon, Geneva, Ischia, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Miami, as well as in the Gaspé region of Quebec and in Montreal.
Joyce Yahouda has participated in numerous local and international fairs in Canada, the USA and Europe.
In 2013, in collaboration with 5 other galleries, she co-founded the specialized drawing magazine HB, of which she is also co-curator.
Joyce Yahouda promotes contemporary artists, both emerging and established, working in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, performance, photography, installation, sculpture, video and digital art. She has curated over 300 exhibitions, exhibited over 330 artists of different origins in more than 7 countries (Canada, France, Switzerland, UK, Brazil, USA, Italy). She has produced over 50 artistic events, including performances, roundtables, conferences, publication and artists' book launches.
In 2011, she was nominated as one of the finalists for "Galerist of the Year" at the Visual Arts Gala organized by AGAC (Association des galeries d'art contemporain), an award she won the following year in 2012.
