Biography - Andres Manniste
Andres Manniste is a painter, a printmaker and a media artist. Throughout his Web art, Manniste explores the notion of the abstract dimension generated by subjective perception, along with the infinite possibilities for connections and interactions that exist within virtual networks. In his painting practice, Andres Manniste buries his renderings in layers of paint in a pointillist manner in order to allude to the granular quality of the electronic media.
His work has been presented in various solo and group exhibitions, including amongst others a show at l'Atelier de réalisations graphiques (Quebec, 1976), at the UQAM Gallery (Montreal, 1979), at Graff (Montreal, 1978 and 1981), at the Maison de la culture Frontenac (Montreal,1996), at Esthésio art Contemporain (Quebec, 2002), at Rhizome ArtBase (New York, 2005), at pARTnerships (Brisbane, Australia, 2006) and at Joyce Yahouda Gallery (Montreal, 2007). In 2000, his exhibition Una cartolina per pace was presented in many Italian art centers. He was also invited to participate in Urban Jealousy the 1st International Roaming Biennial of Tehran (2008-10).
Manniste’s work is included in many collections, notably the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, Rhizome artbase (New York), the Heritage Collection of the Quebec Archives, the Government of Ontario Art Collection, Canada Council’s Art Bank, the Estonian Fine Arts Centre (Toronto) and the Musée d’art de Joliette.
Manniste is the 2006 laureate of the Drunken Boat Pan Literary Awards for Web Art in New York.
