BPM 37093 is a star situated about fifty light-years from our solar system. Having reached the end of its existence, it core is 90% crystalized, transforming what was a mass of carbon into a gigantic diamond. Both the form and content of the narratives that Julie Tremble creates are inspired by radical processes of transformation such as the one BPM 37093 went through. She is particularly interested in astronomic phenomena that, due to their scale, defy direct perception. While for scientists these objects exist in the form of graphics and mathematical calculations, for most people they can only be understood through a fictive process. The artist builds fictional spaces using documentary and cinematic vocabulary to reflect on the dramatic codes and clichés through which we attempt to portray the indemonstrable.

She is particularly interested in the juxtaposition of astronomical phenomena and the human species. Cosmic objects such as asteroids, meteorites, and near-Earth objects elicit in us a fear of destruction as they remind us that no body, living or inert, is everlasting.
We tread on the carcasses of dinosaurs.

Through video, photographs and sound, Julie Tremble considers matter and its transformations with the various elements that make up BPM 37093. Drawing on documentary and Hollywood film, as well as homemade scientific experiment, the work traces her reflection on the narrative processes that generate fiction, reality, knowledge, and sensation.
