Dominique Toutant

Biography - Dominique Toutant

Born in Montreal in 1975, Dominique Toutant lives and works in Montreal. He holds a Bachelor’s in Studio Arts from Laval University (1997), and a Master’s in Multimedia Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2002).

Toutant’s conceptual artisitic practice is inspired by art history as material. He revisits famous art works and transposes them into new contexts. By playing this way with the works, he redefines their visual roles thereby expanding collective comprehension art’s place in history.

Toutant’s work has been exhibited in Quebec and Ontario, notably as solo exhibitions at Joyce Yahouda Gallery (Montreal, 2004 and 2008), as well as at Gallery 1313 (Toronto, 2004). He also participated in the Symposium de la nouvelle peinture de Baie St-Paul (1999), and in collective exhibitions at the Darling Foundry (2005) and at the Musée régional de Rimouski (2006), amongst others.

Dominique Toutant is represented by the Joyce Yahouda Gallery.
